In a season of transition and opportunity, two distinguished educators have been appointed to lead public school systems into promising new eras. Dr. Mark Ramirez has been named Superintendent of Lake Worth ISD in Texas, and Dr. Andraé Townsel will assume leadership of Hartford Public Schools in Connecticut. Both appointments reflect a nationwide commitment to elevating student achievement through visionary, equity-driven leadership.
Notably, Dr. Ramirez is a proud graduate of JG Consulting’s Leadership Academy, Cohort III—an intensive, application-based development program designed for aspiring superintendents. The Academy is known for cultivating exceptional school leaders by sharpening their executive leadership skills, advancing their understanding of strategic district management, and preparing them to navigate the challenges of 21st-century education. Graduates of the program are distinguished by their commitment to equity, innovation, and transformative student outcomes—principles that both Ramirez and Townsel embody.
Dr. Mark Ramirez: Lake Worth ISD’s New Era Begins
On May 28, 2025, the Lake Worth ISD Board of Trustees officially named Dr. Mark Ramirez as its next Superintendent of Schools. With more than 26 years in public education, Dr. Ramirez brings a robust background in instructional leadership, bilingual education, and executive management.
Having served in multiple roles within Dallas ISD—including Associate Superintendent—Dr. Ramirez also brings statewide experience from his tenure as science coordinator in Harlingen CISD. His academic credentials are equally impressive: a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Dallas Baptist University, a Master’s in Interdisciplinary Science from UT Arlington, and a Zoology degree from Texas Tech University.
“I am deeply honored and incredibly excited to join the Lake Worth ISD family,” Dr. Ramirez said. “As a team, we can unleash the great potential of Lake Worth ISD and build a future where success and opportunity are open to everyone.”
Ramirez’s appointment follows a thoughtful community-engaged hiring process. The Board expressed confidence that his leadership will guide Lake Worth ISD into a new chapter of personalized learning, growth, and student empowerment.
Dr. Andraé Townsel: Bold Vision for Hartford Public Schools
On July 1, 2025, Hartford Public Schools announced the unanimous appointment of Dr. Andraé Townsel as its next Superintendent, following a national search that reviewed more than 40 candidates. A product of Detroit Public Schools and a triple-degree graduate of Howard University, Dr. Townsel’s dynamic leadership journey spans nearly every level of K–12 education.
From student teacher to principal, and from coach to central office leader, Dr. Townsel currently serves as Superintendent of Calvert County Public Schools in Maryland, where he has been recognized for elevating the district to one of the top-ranked systems in the state. He is also the current President of the Public School Superintendents’ Association of Maryland.
Known for his energizing leadership style and mantra—“Set the bar. Meet the bar. Exceed the bar. Raise the bar!”—Dr. Townsel emphasized collaboration and equity in his statement:
“This is an incredible opportunity to work collaboratively with students, families, educators, and community partners who are deeply invested in the success of our schools.”
City and district officials, including Mayor Arunan Arulampalam, praised the appointment. “This is a critical moment for our school system,” the mayor said. “Dr. Townsel’s distinguished experience makes him uniquely qualified to build on Hartford’s progress.”

As districts across the nation grapple with challenges in equity, student engagement, and post-pandemic recovery, the appointments of Dr. Ramirez and Dr. Townsel offer renewed hope.
