Dr. John Baracy
Dr. John Baracy has been a school administrator for 37 years at all levels of education, having started his career at a University, then a County Education Service Agency, a K-12 School district, a High School District and an Elementary District before retiring as superintendent of the Scottsdale Unified School District, in October, 2008. Dr. Baracy also served as school superintendent in the Phoenix Union High School District, Roosevelt Elementary School District, and the Tempe Elementary School District. He is currently is an adjunct professor with Northern Arizona University and facilitates the 1st year New Superintendent Seminar Series that is sponsored by Grand Canyon University, ASA and ADE.
Dr. Luvelle Brown

Luvelle Brown is the 2017 New York State Superintendent of the Year. He has served as Superintendent of the Ithaca City School District (ICSD) in Ithaca, New York since January 2011. Prior to arriving in Ithaca, Dr. Brown had experiences as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, school CIO, and district-level leader in Virginia.
Dr. Jesus Chavez
Senior Search Consultant
Dr. Chavez served as the Superintendent of Schools with Round Rock ISD, Harlingen CISD and Corpus Christi ISD before retiring from public education in 2013 after a 35-year career. He also served as the Superintendent in Residence at The Holdsworth Center during 2017-2018. Dr. Chavez became the Executive Director for the South Texas Association of Schools.
Joe Coto

Joe Coto began his career as a Social Studies teacher in the Oakland Unified School District. He later became Superintendent of the Oakland Public Schools in 1984. In 1988, he was recruited to serve as Superintendent of the East Side Union High School District in San Jose, and served in that position for the next 14 years. The Association of California School Administrators named him the 2003 Superintendent of the Year.
Dr. Xavier De La Torre

Dr. Xavier De La Torre is a well-known figure in the El Paso community. Prior to joining the Ysleta Independent School District (YISD) in March 2014, he served as the Superintendent of Schools in the neighboring Socorro Independent School District (SISD) before relocating to California in 2012 to serve as the County Superintendent of Schools at the Santa Clara County Office of Education. Dr. De La Torre began his career in education as a teacher, coach and principal in various school districts in California before serving as Associate Superintendent of Human Resources in the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, where he managed all aspects of personnel and labor relations. He then served as Associate Superintendent of Human Resources and Chief Labor Negotiator in the Elk Grove Unified School District in Sacramento, CA.
Dr. Michael Escalante

Dr. Escalante served as the Superintendent of the Glendale Unified School District and the Fullerton Joint High School District over the course of 13 years before retiring. Mike currently serves as a Professor of Clinical Education at the University of Southern California Rossier School of Education. He currently teaches several courses in educational leadership and has responsibility for chairing doctoral dissertations.
Alton Frailey
Senior Search Consultant
Alton Frailey current serves as the Interim Superintendent of Schools for Nacogdoches ISD. He was most recently the Superintendent of Schools with Katy ISD and DeSoto ISD before retiring in 2016. Mr. Frailey has served in public education for more than 35-years. He is a past president of both the American Association of School Administrators and the Texas Association of School Administrators. Frailey was named in 2016 a Living Legend by the Houston Association of Black School Educators, and a Super Trailblazer, Top 50 Black Professionals and Entrepreneurs. In 2012, he was named a Distinguished Administrator by the Texas Music Educators Association and in 2010 he was named the Region 4 Education Service Center Superintendent of the Year.
Debra Gomez

Debra Gomez recently served as the Executive Director of the Centers of Educational Innovation with University Public Schools, an Arizona State University affiliate. Prior to this position, she served as the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning in the Tempe Elementary School District for six years. Debra was then appointed as the Interim Superintendent of the Tempe Elementary District for the 2004-2005 school year.
Dr. Lamar Goree

Dr. Lamar Goree is the 2019 Louisiana Superintendent of the Year. He has served as Superintendent of the Caddo Parish Public Schools since 2013. Prior to arriving in Caddo Parish, Dr. Goree served at varying-levels as an educator in large, complex system in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. He also serves as a Leadership Coach with JG Consulting mentoring aspiring superintendents from across the country.
Jodi Huff

Jodi Huff provided leadership and support to the students, teachers, and administrators in the Clark County School District for over 25 years. In her most recent role as the Director of Literacy, Technology, and Talent Development Department she provided ongoing leadership development, management, and implementation of the Performance Zone Instructional Coach (127 coaches) and Digital Coach (45 coaches) initiative. She also organized, facilitated, and led the District’s Response to Instruction Collaborative. She currently works with the Sierra Nevada College as an Adjunct Professor.
Dr. Robert Jaklich

Dr. Robert Jaklich served as the Superintendent of Schools with Harlandale ISD and Victoria ISD before retiring from public education in 2018. Prior to his service as a Superintendent of Schools, he worked as an Executive Director for Human Resources, a High School Principal, a Middle School Principal, and a Coach during the 37-years of service. Dr. Jaklich was the Region 3 Superintendent of the Year and a finalist for the Texas Superintendent of the Year in 2017. He also served as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Intramural Director with St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.
Terri Janison

A child advocate for over 30 years, Mrs. Janison has worked in the private and public sectors on behalf of children. She served on the Clark County School Board of Trustees for five years where she participated in two superintendent searches, leading the effort on the second one while serving as President of the board. Janison also led the search for the Nevada Superintendent of Education while working for Governor Brian Sandoval. Janison is a graduate of Western Kentucky University with a BA in advertising.
Dr. Phil Jepson

Dr. Phil Jepson has served in executive central office positions with Henrico and Isle of Wight Counties. Most recently, Dr. Jepson supported the reorganization of the Isle of Wight Schools Central Office. Dr. Jepson currently serves as an adjunct professor in the Old Dominion University Educational Leadership Graduate Program.
Dr. Jose Leyba

Dr. Jose Leyba worked more than four decades in the public school, higher education, and consultation markets. He has served in various leadership roles from teacher, administrator and CEO in public school and higher education. Dr. Leyba retired from Maricopa Community College District in 2001.
Dr. Patricia Linares

Dr. Linares began her teaching career in Dallas ISD. She most recently served as the Fort Worth ISD Interim Superintendent. Dr. Linares has also worked as an Assistant to the Commissioner of Texas in Government Relations. She was honored as the Woman Educator of the Year in 2004.
Dr. Vincent Matthews

Dr. Matthews currently serves as the Superintendent of Schools with San Francisco USD. Before the San Francisco Board of Education selected Dr. Matthews to serve as superintendent Matthews served as the California Department of Education as the state appointed superintendent of Inglewood Unified School District. Prior to serving in Inglewood Matthews led the San Jose Unified School District as superintendent for almost 6-years where he is credited with raising academic achievement narrowing the achievement gap between Latino and white students and passing landmark agreements with the San Jose teacher’s union. Prior to working in San Jose, he served as a state appointed superintendent for Oakland Unified and as an area superintendent for San Diego City Schools.
Michael McKie

Michael McKie served as Superintendent of Hays Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) from 2013-2017. Prior to Hays CISD, he served as the Acting Superintendent of Fort Bend Independent School District in 2012-2013. He had a distinguished career that spanned over 25 years in Fort Bend ISD where he served as assistant principal, associate principal, principal, and assistant superintendent. He has been actively involved in the school transformation effort in Texas. After 35 years of service in Texas public education, he recently retired.
Dr. Dan McLendon

Dr. Dan McLendon has more than 40-years of experience in public education as a teacher, campus and central office administrator, and consultant. His experiences include executive assistant and primary desegregation planner for the Corpus Christi ISD, Deputy Superintendent of Instruction for the Richardson ISD, and Superintendent of the Round Rock ISD and West Orange-Cove CISD. Dr. McLendon is currently the President of Dan McLendon and Associates, an education consulting group located in San Antonio.
Dr. Stan Paz

Dr. Stan Paz serves as the executive director of TALAS since 2016. He is the founding president of the Association for Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS). He also served as the superintendent of the Tucson Unified School District and El Paso Independent School District. Dr. Paz is a former president of the Texas Association of School Administrators, and was honored in 1994 as the Texas Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Association of School Boards.
Dr. Guy Sconzo

Dr. Guy Sconzo served the as Superintendent of Humble ISD for the past 15 years before retiring. Dr. Sconzo’s 43-year career in education began in New York as a teacher, then principal. He has served as a superintendent for 26 years in Ohio, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Texas. He was named a finalist for TASB Superintendent of the Year and was the 2007 TASA nominee for National Superintendent of the Year.
Dr. Billy Snow

Dr. Billy Snow served as the Superintendent of Schools with Cedar Hill ISD. He also served as the Chief of Transformation and Innovation with Dallas ISD, and the District Transformation and Innovation Officer for Caddo Parish Public Schools. In 2008, Dr. Snow was selected as Texas Elementary Principal of the Year and was named National Distinguished Principal Finalist from Texas in 2011. He is the founder of the Transformation Leaders Network, a consultancy dedicated to equity, with a focus on school improvement, turnaround and transformation.
Dr. Celina Estrada Thomas

Dr. Celina Estrada Thomas has dedicated her entire professional career to public school education. Her career spans 36 years in a variety of leadership roles with the most recent appointment as the superintendent for Hutto ISD. Her professional experiences include serving as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Fredericksburg ISD, Director of Human Resources in Bastrop ISD; a middle and high school principal for 19 years; and six years of teaching at the elementary and high school levels. She also worked as a Research Associate at the Texas Education Agency and the Intercultural Development Research Association in San Antonio, which was instrumental in assisting with the completion of her doctoral studies.
David Thomas

David Thomas has been a successful Principal and Superintendent for over 30 years. David was recruited to become CEO of the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB). He led the Upper Canada District School Board for 12 years. The large school district included 4 regional education centres, over 100 elementary schools, 23 high schools and 10 adult education centers. In his tenure at the District he created a nationally recognized International School. David guided the UCDSB to establish the first 5-year and 10-year educational contract with a First Nations education authority.

Valda Valbrun

She has a strong background in school administration, having served as a middle school principal. Her experience includes work in rural, suburban, and large, urban districts and she currently provides leadership training, coaching and consulting across the country in addition to providing training specifically to build Culturally Proficient Leaders.
Dr. Delores Warnell

Dr. Delores Warnell provided leadership and support to students, teachers, administrators and communities in Texas and Missouri for more than 30 years. In addition to being an Educational Specialist at Region 3 Education Service Center, she served in many campus and district leadership positions including teacher, coordinator, director and principal for various district programs and initiatives. From 2010 to 2017, Dr. Warnell served as Superintendent of Bloomington Independent School District.
