At JG Consulting, we measure our success by the impact of the leaders we help place. Today, I am especially proud to celebrate the recognition of Dr. Roosevelt Nivens, superintendent of Lamar Consolidated Independent School District, who was named the 2025 Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB).
This honor, presented during the annual txEDCON conference hosted by TASB and the Texas Association of School Administrators, highlights Dr. Nivens’ exceptional leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to student success.
Seeking a Leader Who Could Navigate Rapid Growth
When Lamar CISD partnered with JG Consulting to identify their next superintendent, they sought a leader who could navigate rapid growth while maintaining a deep focus on students. Through our executive search process, the Board selected Dr. Nivens, a proven servant-leader with over 30 years of experience in public education. His appointment in 2021 has since proven to be transformational for one of the fastest-growing districts in Texas.
Lamar CISD currently serves more than 49,000 students across 57 campuses, with enrollment projected to climb to nearly 70,000 within the next decade. TASB recognized Dr. Nivens for his ability to meet these challenges head-on with a student-centered approach and a collaborative leadership style.
His leadership is not just about growth management—it’s about ensuring every student feels seen, heard, and supported. As Board President Jacci Hotzel recently shared, “Dr. Nivens is a true servant-leader, dedicated to student success, and he’s not afraid to roll up his sleeves and do the work.”
Consistent Record of Excellence
Dr. Nivens’ career reflects a consistent record of excellence: from his early years as a teacher and coach, to leadership roles in Dallas ISD and Lancaster ISD, to serving as superintendent of Community ISD, and now Lamar CISD. His honors include Region 10 Superintendent of the Year, National Superintendent of the Year by the National Alliance of Black School Educators, 2022 Latino Serving Superintendent of the Year by ALAS, and vice president of the Texas Association of School Administrators.
The Impact of Exceptional Leadership
At JG Consulting, we are deeply honored to have played a role in bringing Dr. Nivens to Lamar CISD. His recognition as Texas Superintendent of the Year affirms the power of thoughtful executive search and, more importantly, the impact of exceptional leadership on the future of public education.
Congratulations, Dr. Nivens, on this well-deserved honor. We are proud to stand alongside you in celebrating this milestone and look forward to witnessing the continued growth and success of Lamar CISD under your leadership.
