Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education Names New Superintendent

The Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education unanimously voted July 1 to approve the selection of Ignacio Ruíz as the next Las Cruces Public Schools superintendent. Ruíz’s first day on the job will be Tuesday, Aug. 1. Interim Superintendent Sherley O’Brien will oversee the district until that date. The board unanimously approved Ruíz’s contract terms from Aug. 1, 2023, until June 30, 2025. Read more »

Killeen School Board Names Lone Finalist for Superintendent Position

The Killeen school board has named Jo Ann Fey as the lone finalist for the school district’s top administrative position. Fey, who is the Midlothian ISD superintendent, is likely to officially get the top Killeen ISD job in the next few weeks. “I plan on establishing priorities to ensure a smooth transition. The Socorro Independent School District Board of Trustees named Dr. Nate Carman as the finalist for the superintendent position. The announcement was made at a Special Board of Trustees meeting on Monday. Community ISD Names Central Texas Administrator as Next Superintendent

Community ISD announced its next superintendent Monday. The district’s board of trustees said Dr. Tonya Knowlton is the “lone finalist” for the superintendent position in a special meeting. Knowlton, currently a superintendent of Lexington ISD in Central Texas, spent the majority of her career in education in East Texas, where she served as a teacher, principal, adjunct professor and superintendent until moving to Lexington ISD in 2017. Katie Kordel Named Lone Finalist for Lovejoy ISD Superintendent

The Lovejoy ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved Katie Kordel as the lone finalist for the district’s superintendent position. Ms. Kordel has served as the Chief Innovation and Strategic Initiatives Officer for Allen ISD the past two years. In Allen, Kordel designed and facilitated the SOAR 2030 strategic vision initiative. She oversaw Technology, Assessment and Accountability, Information Services, Education Foundation, Partnerships, Community Engagement, and Coordinated School Health. Read more »

Houston ISD Trustees Name Tennessee Educator Millard House II as Lone Superintendent Finalist

Houston ISD trustees unanimously voted Friday to name Millard House II as their lone superintendent finalist, tapping the leader of Tennessee’s Clarksville-Montgomery County School System to guide the district past a tumultuous period of instability. House will arrive in Houston after spending four years as superintendent of Clarksville-Montgomery, a public school district home to about 37,000 students near the Tennessee-Kentucky border. Adams 14 Board Selects Sole Finalist to be District’s New Superintendent

The Adams 14 school district will have a new superintendent this summer. The board voted unanimously Friday to appoint Karla Loria, the sole finalist, as superintendent to start in July. The district must still negotiate a contract with Loria. Loria, a native of Costa Rica, is currently the chief academic officer for the Clark County School District, in Las Vegas, Nevada, the fifth-largest district in the U.S. Loria was initially one of two candidates named by the school board for the job. KCK Public Schools Hires New Superintendent

Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools has hired a new superintendent. The Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of Dr. Anna Stubblefield on Friday. Stubblefield is currently the deputy superintendent for Lawrence Public Schools. She has held this position since 2018 after serving as the interim superintendent for the 2017-18 school year. “We are truly excited about the hiring of Dr. Stubblefield and look forward to the experience and leadership she will bring to our school district and community,” said Randy Lopez, Board of Education president. Dripping Springs ISD Names Holly Morris-Kuentz Lone Finalist for Superintendent

The Dripping Springs ISD board of trustees voted unanimously to select Holly Morris-Kuentz as lone finalist for district superintendent at an April 13 meeting. Morris-Kuentz is set to be officially hired in May following a state-mandated 21-day waiting period. Currently Deputy Superintendent of Lake Travis ISD, where she has served since 2009, Morris-Kuentz was selected after a nationwide search conducted by third-party firm JG Consulting. Lamar CISD Names Dr. Roosevelt Nivens Lone Finalist For Superintendent

The Lamar Consolidated ISD School Board at a special meeting held on Tuesday, April 6 announced Dr. Roosevelt Nivens as the “lone finalist” to serve as the district’s next superintendent. The board’s announcement follows an extensive, nationwide search lasting several months. The search process included gathering input from community stakeholders which was used to develop a candidate profile that was nationally advertised. More than 47 candidates applied for the position. Crosby ISD Picks Superintendent Finalist

Paula Patterson was named the lone finalist to serve as Superintendent by the Crosby ISD Board of Trustees at the third of successive Special Called Meetings in a week on Wednesday, March 17. A press release from Crosby ISD touts 20 years as an educator and her current position as Deputy Superintendent of Academic Service in Sheldon ISD. “A graduate of Crosby ISD and a resident of the Crosby community, Mrs. Patterson began her professional career as a teacher in Crosby ISD and became principal of Crosby Elementary. Agua Fria District Names Mark Yslas as New Superintendent

Agua Fria Union High School District’s Governing Board voted unanimously during an eight-minute special meeting March 31 to confirm the employment contract for Mark Yslas as the district’s new superintendent. Mr. Yslas’ tenure will begin July 1, 2021, following the retirement of Dr. Dennis Runyan. He joins AFUHSD from the Alhambra Elementary School District, where he has served as superintendent since 2015. Read more »

Sito Narcisse Selected as New EBR Schools Superintendent

In a five to four vote, the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board selected Dr. Sito Narcisse as the new leader for the school system in a meeting Thursday, January 14. There were three candidates vying for the position of superintendent, including Interim Superintendent Adam Smith, Narcisse and Marla Sheppard. The board members who voted for Narcisse were Evelyn Ware-Jackson, Michael Gaudet, Jill Dyason, Mark Bellue and Dadrius Lanus. Read more »

DeSoto ISD Names Lone Finalist for Superintendent Role

The DeSoto Independent School District  Board of Trustees has named Mr. D’Andre Weaver as the lone finalist for the district’s superintendent position. Trustees voted to approve the decision at a special called meeting held August 16, 2018. Read more »

VISD Selects Iowa Leader as Next Superintendent

The Victoria school board voted unanimously 6-0 Tuesday evening, after spending 20 minutes in closed session, to select Quintin Shepherd, Linn-Mar Community School District‘s superintendent for three years. Seven elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school are located throughout the Linn-Mar school district. Read more »

The Pathway to Superintendency

Aspiring superintendents face a difficult but worthwhile challenge to lead a school district. All school districts, for better or worse, are the subject to immeasurable scrutiny from internal and external stakeholders. More times than not the scrutiny comes in different forms and through various outlets- editorials, social media, TV, etc. It is important for any aspiring superintendent to remain grounded with these circumstances in mind. Read more »

San Marcos CISD Approves Superintendent Search Firm

San Marcos CISD unanimously voted Dec. 7 to hire JG Consulting as the firm to handle the district’s upcoming superintendent search. JG Consulting will help gather input from the community, the board of trustees and district staff to create a candidate profile.
